POSITION DESCRIPTION:

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Azure Cloud Architect with experience architecting solutions at scale. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in the energy domain, expertise in cloud architecture and software design, coupled with the ability to lead the design, implementation, and optimization of Azure-based cloud solutions. This senior-level role requires technical leadership and a passion for creating scalable, reliable, cost-effective, sustainable and innovative solutions in the sustainable energy domain.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Cloud Architecture & Design: Architect scalable, secure, and high-performance Azure cloud solutions tailored to Distributed Energy Resource Management Systems (DERMS) and renewable energy platforms.
  • Software Development at Scale: Lead the design and review of software solutions to ensure reliability, maintainability, performance, and extensibility at scale.
  • Software Design Principles: Apply and enforce best practices in software design, including microservices architecture and design patterns.
  • Technical Leadership: Guide cross-functional teams, fostering collaboration and innovation to deliver high-quality, efficient solutions.
  • Cloud Strategy Development: Develop and implement cloud strategies aligned with business objectives, focusing on scalability, reliability, and cost-efficiency.
  • Integration & Optimization: Oversee the integration of existing energy systems and third-party services into Azure-based platforms, driving seamless functionality and performance optimization.
  • Mentorship: Provide mentorship and technical training to junior architects, developers, and engineers, cultivating a culture of technical excellence.
  • Compliance & Security: Ensure all cloud and software solutions meet industry regulations, security standards, and energy sector best practices.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience architecting solutions on Microsoft Azure.
  • Proven experience in developing scalable software solutions, including distributed systems, high-availability architectures, and performance optimization.
  • Expertise in software design, including microservices architecture, API development, and design patterns.
  • Background in distributed energy resource management or renewable energy systems.
  • Deep technical expertise in:
    • Azure serverless and container services.
    • Azure Digital Twins.
    • Microsoft Fabric data services.
    • Streaming and AI/ML services.
  • Proficiency in programming and scripting languages such as Python, C#, or Java.
  • Strong understanding of software engineering principles and industry best practices.
  • Microsoft Azure Solutions Architect Expert certification (or equivalent).
  • Proven ability to lead technical teams, foster collaboration, and manage complex cross-functional projects.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and decision-making skills.
  • Exceptional problem-solving abilities.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Familiarity with renewable energy systems, energy grids, and distributed energy resource management.
  • Experience with machine learning and AI applications for energy optimization.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices for energy systems.

The salary range is required by the California Pay Transparency Act and may differ depending on the location of those candidates hired nationwide. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to, skill set, education, licenses and certifications, essential job duties and requirements, and the necessary experience relative to the job’s minimum qualifications.
