POSITION DESCRIPTION:
 

The Sales Application Engineering Manager – Energy Storage System  will lead a team of customer-facing technical experts on the capabilities of Qcells energy storage, microgrid solutions and PV solutions. This will involve assisting customers and partners to understand the specifications and capabilities of Qcells developed and partner products and helping create project designs to utilize these solutions in a safe, cost-effective, and compliant manner. Ideal candidate should be able to recruit, hire and on-board a new Applications Engineering team including Battery Storage, Control and Power Electronics SME (subject matter experts) to support external customer projects as well provide technical expertise to in-house energy storage & PV project development teams. This is a remote job with up to 25% travel requirements.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead Applications engineering team and provide training, guidance and mentorship
  • Act as the subject matter expert for commercial and community storage solutions including inverters, switchgear, transformers, fire safety and system components
  • Support Sales Representatives for feasibility with due diligence and validating preliminary design prior to contract.
  • Review single line diagrams, electrical / mechanical drawings, and BESS system layouts, and utility/AHJ requirements
  • Act as the subject matter expert for industry best practices, regulations, compliance, and standards around battery storage systems- UL 9540, UL1973, UL 1741, NEC (National Electrical Code)
  • Provide regular feedback to product & engineering team in defining system solution, partner & component selection
  • Work with equipment supplier/vendors to obtain the required information for project design completion
  • Maintain professional knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, participating in professional societies and meetings
  • All other duties as assigned by Senior Management.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
 

  • 10+ yrs. experience as design engineer, applications engineer, technical sales of inverters and battery solutions
  • 5 + yrs. experience interacting with Battery storage solutions, Utilities, ISO’s, IPP’s in US market
  • 5+yrs. project management experience with battery storage products deployment
  • Ability to review & generate single-line, three-line, communications and wiring diagrams for battery storage, microgrid & PV systems
  • Manage & mentor a team of application engineers and work cross-functionally
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks in pressure situations

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Power System, Electrical, Electronics or Computer Engineering
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, ETAP or SKM experience performing Load Flow, Short Circuit, Relay Coordination, and conductor sizing
  • Experience with PV design tools (PV Syst), programming SEL relays and RTACs
  • Familiarity with project lifecycle and contract structures for solar, storage or renewable projects
