POSITION OVERVIEW
Future Energy Technology Center (FETC) is looking for a Mechanical Engineer to work on cooling solutions for low and high-power electronics. You will work on analyzing thermal problems, proposing and designing cooling solutions, performing testing to validate all solutions, and support from design concept to hand-off to production.
RESPONSIBILITIES 
  • Analyze and design thermal management solutions for power electronics devices and other power electronics elements (inductors, capacitors, etc.)
  • Perform thermal and fluid simulations of cooling solutions in Ansys or similar FEA software
  • Validate concepts and solutions with experiments in the lab for thermal design
  • Design to meet all cost and cooling targets
  • Generating mechanical CAD files
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS 
  • Bachelor’s or higher Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in power electronics thermal design
  • Experience with CAD systems (Solidworks or similar software)
  • Good knowledge of 3D modeling
  • Proficient experience in thermal design using FEA software including Icepak, Comsol or SW flow simulation.
  • Extensive knowledge of heatsinks, fans, TIM, cold plate and heat exchanger design
  • Proficient Experience with natural convection, forced air convection and liquid cooling projects
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 
  • Previous experience in a similar power electronics field in powers ranging from hundreds of Watts to 1MW
  • Experience in areas of PV (solar) inverters, EV chargers, battery storage, or similar technologies
  • Experience in low and high-volume production
  • Experience with static and dynamic mechanical simulations

The salary range is required by the California Pay Transparency Act and may differ depending on the location of those candidates hired nationwide. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to, skill set, education, licenses and certifications, essential job duties and requirements, and the necessary experience relative to the job’s minimum qualifications.
