Manager, Design and Engineering

Position Description:

Q CELLS Home Energy Solutions seeks a Manager of Design and Engineering to manage and control projects through administrative and specialized expertise with the Home Energy System division. This position will be responsible for the support and management of the design accuracy of solar energy and battery storage from the site survey review and up to the project receiving final inspection. Major responsibilities include submission of design requests to various third-party drafting firms, verification of scope and design accuracy for code compliance, reporting on design accuracy, cycle time and support of the Field Operations team in managing the design and construction of solar and solar plus battery systems. 

This is a key position with the responsibility for building and scaling the solar support operations to match the growth of the business. The ideal candidate is an experienced professional with strong analytical skills, great attention to detail, problem solving and communication skills. This position will be based out of the Irvine, CA office, with an in-office schedule that is set at the direct manager’s discretion in accordance with the company policies and procedures. Remote options are available for exceptional cases.

RESPONSIBILITIES 

• Vendor/People Management responsible for managing multiple vendors with the potential to buildout and manage a team of 2 -5 employees.
• Create and submit Drafting package for third party Auto Cad drafters 
• Develop AHJ database to improve first time approval rates on permit applications
• Become a subject matter expert on the Qcells Q.Home battery system and Q.Volt string inverter for residential applications
• Perform quality reviews on completed design packages
• List of the scope of work and generate work orders for construction
• Compare the scope of work against the signed agreement and ensure project was sold with the appropriate adders
• Create system to streamline or automate work order creation
• Develop system to track design vendor performance on design quality and conformance to SLA
• Conduct monthly and quarterly business reviews with design vendors on performance
• Source and vet new design vendors as well as negotiate pricing and terms

• Review operational procedures to ensure conformance to industry best practices
• Build internal design team to design residential PV and storage systems

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS 

• Bachelor’s Degree in related field with a minimum of 5+ years’ experience in solar system design and engineering
• Impeccable attention to detail 
• Ability to exercise strong organizational, problem-solving and analytical skills 
• Excellent leadership, team development, people management  
• Detailed, analytical thinker with ability to recruit and lead quantitative talent 
• Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to present credit management, vision and strategy in internal and external forums
